BorderCast Privacy Policy
Effective Date: March 7, 2026
Overview
BorderCast is a border crossing wait time app developed by PDXT, LLC. We respect your privacy. This policy describes what data the app accesses, how it is used, and what is shared with third parties.
We do not collect, store, or transmit any personally identifiable information to PDXT, LLC. BorderCast contains no advertising and no user accounts.
Analytics
BorderCast uses Google Firebase Analytics to understand how the app is used and to improve the experience. Firebase Analytics may collect:
- Usage data: App opens, screen views, and feature usage (e.g., which crossings are viewed most)
- Device information: Device model, operating system version, and app version
- Crash data: Crash logs and performance metrics to help us fix issues
This data is anonymous and aggregated. It does not include your name, email, location, or any personally identifiable information. Firebase Analytics is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.
Location Data
BorderCast offers optional proximity alerts that notify you with current wait times when you are near a favorited border crossing. If you enable this feature:
- How it works: The app uses iOS geofencing to detect when your device is within 5 km of a favorited crossing. This is handled entirely by the operating system using low-power cell/WiFi triangulation — not continuous GPS tracking.
- On-device only: Your location is processed locally on your device. Your location is never sent to PDXT, LLC or any third party.
- Permission required: Location access requires your explicit permission through iOS system prompts. You can revoke access at any time in iOS Settings.
- No tracking: Location data is not used for analytics, advertising, profiling, or any purpose other than triggering proximity alerts.
Data Used on Your Device
The following data is processed locally on your device and is never sent to PDXT, LLC:
- App Preferences: Settings such as your selected auto-refresh interval and favorite crossings are stored locally on your device using standard iOS preferences. They are never transmitted externally.
- Proximity alert cooldowns: Timestamps of recent proximity alerts are stored locally to prevent repeated notifications. They are never transmitted externally.
Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, share, or transfer any user data to third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. Network communication is limited to:
- The BorderCast API to retrieve publicly available border wait times
- Google Firebase for anonymous usage analytics and crash reporting
Data Retention
BorderCast does not store any personal data on external servers. All personal data resides on your device:
- Crossing data: refreshed on each fetch, not persisted
- Preferences and favorites: persist until you delete the app
- Analytics data: retained by Google Firebase per their data retention policies
Your Rights
You have full control over your data:
- Delete all stored data by deleting the app
- Change your auto-refresh interval at any time in Settings
- Disable proximity alerts or revoke location permission at any time in iOS Settings
Children's Privacy
BorderCast does not knowingly collect any personal information from children under 13. The app does not collect personal information from any user.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
